3 goals for this year
A new year and new resolutions, this year instead of focusing on the smaller things as I did in previous years, I want to focus on some big goals. I usually focus on a specific skill for the year, like bread baking, knitting, meat preparation, or the year when I focused on making biscuits. But this last year we took a big step with our little family, and it felt good. So we have two big goals that will greatly impact our family and one that is more for me personally.
Driving license
My top goal for this year has to be my driving license, and maybe that isn’t something I should write on a blog but it really is. When I was younger, I hoped to never have to own a car, because they tend to be less then ideal for the earth, but since then I’ve started to see how essential a car is if I want to do what I do. Which is life in a more rural location with a little vegetable garden and some sheep, in a tiny little whitewashed cottage. Time and time again I had difficulty with doing something or getting something because of a lack of a driving license. Now about 3 years ago, my husband and I agreed that we needed a driving license, and since his employer also made it very clear that he would have to get one, he started with driving lessons. Now if you’re not from the Netherlands you might not know that it is quite time-consuming and difficult for your budget to get a driving license. Unfortunately, my husband didn’t manage to get his driving license before we moved to Ireland, so now I took over the torch and I’m now trying to get my driving license. But if you’re not from Ireland then you might not know that you will need to be practicing for at least 6 months and do 12 special driving lessons before you can even apply for your driving exam. Therefore I’m practicing a lot so that I can apply for my test soon. So here are fingers crossed, that soon I will be able to pass that test and we can get our car.
More rurally
Another goal I have for this year is definitely to move away from the city, into a little house that is in a slightly more rural location. Don’t get me wrong cities are very handy, you don’t have to drive if you don’t want to and all the shops are nearby and let’s not forget about all the restaurants. But I prefer space and wild things around me instead of all this concrete, and if that means I don’t have all those things around I really couldn’t be any less bothered about it. Because the things I will gain is more peace of mind and some extra space for my girls to run around in. Then we can live more happily while we save up for our little cottage of our dreams.
Grow blog
For a couple of years now I’ve started blogs and stopped writing on them again because I always felt that it wasn’t perfect enough. That a certain tutorial wasn’t as clear as could be or a recipe not as beautifully written as some in magazines. But recently my sister in law has started working more and more on her own blog and she wasn’t worried about perfection she just wrote whatever was on her mind. She wasn’t spending an entire week just to get the pictures for some recipe just right. So I’m taking a page out of her book and I’m just writing, not worrying about perfection or what my dad might think of me or what the world will think of me for that matter. Because the most important thing is doing it, however, imperfect it might be done.
What did you think about my goals for this year, are they similar to yours and do you feel it’s absolute madness to create goals halfway through a year or do you secretly wish like me that this would be the norm. Please let me know in the comments, I would love to hear from you.
