The small and simple things in life
Part of living a simple life is appreciating the small and simple things in that life. Like the frozen flowers on a cold and frosty morning or the layer of snow on a leaf. It is drinking that steaming cup of tea while you’re breathing in the crisp morning air.
Appreciating frost during cold winter days
It’s easy to enjoy the sunshine and warm breezes. Frost, however, takes a bit more effort to enjoy and appreciate fully. During cold winter days when all seems bare and lifeless, it can be hard to appreciate the season.
But when we slow down and take a minute to look at it through new eyes, we can see the magic of frost. The way it looks so sharp and delicate, the way it can make the red and green of plants stand out more. For when there is frost, it doesn’t just change the landscape and air, but it changes the way we look at the world.
All of a sudden, you realise that autumn is over and winter is here.
A simple life and loving snow
Loving snow is easy when you are a child you get to throw snowballs and make a snowman. But for the fast-paced adults that have to maneuver their car on the snow-covered road, it is less appreciated. But if you want a simpler life you will want to start by slowing your life down. And during the winter, a perfect way to do that is by going outside and just enjoy the snow. In my post about why nature walks are important, I explain why going outside is so vital for this.
Go outside and touch some snow with your bare hands. Feel how it stings your skin, see how your skin turns red and numb. Look at the snow and how it glitters in the sunshine, squeeze it, and feel how something so airy becomes solid and dense. This snow is made up out of millions of tiny unique snowflakes, that mere thought is impossible to fully comprehend.
And still, you hold that magic in your hand.
