Grow your own
Oh. To grow your own plants and be able to get your hands in some dirt, isn’t that one of life’s greatest pleasures. Growing plants is a wonderful thing, you take a tiny seed and you let it sprout and grow into a lush and healthy plant. Whether you prefer ornamental plants like flowers or non-edible plants, or you prefer edible plants like vegetables or herbs. Any plant is a magical plant and will bring joy to your life by caring for it and seeing it flourish.
Can’t grow your own, then forage your own.
But unfortunately, not all of us always have space or the time to grow vegetables or fruit. Because although balconies and windowsills can hold a lot of plants not everyone wants to garden like that. And maybe, more importantly, you might only have windows that face north, and therefore it will be frustratingly difficult to get any plant to grow. But fear not, you can still forage for a lot of wild edibles and have some connection with growing things in that way. I personally grow some of my own herbs and vegetables and forage for other edibles.
So go and plant or forage your own lovely fruits, veggies, flowers, nuts, or just take a moment to breathe in the fresh air.

Foraging for hawthorn and its folklore
Growing up I had never seen or heard about a hawthorn, mainly because in the Netherlands there aren’t that many. But in Ireland, they are everywhere. You see them in the parks, and next to the roads, sometimes they’re thin and small and other times tall and unruly. But the blossom makes the whole countryside come alive, the clusters of white flowers that filled every nook and cranny. Later I saw the berries and wondered if I could eat them. Turns out you can!

But people have now figured out that there is actually merit to some uses of nettle, namely hay fever.
